Romney Sheep Types
Romney Sheep are a broad-chested hornless sheep varying in color from white to black to lovely grays and browns. The Romney fleece is unique among all breeds of sheep in the way it combines several important traits. The fleece is lustrous; it hangs in separate locks, with minimal cross fibers between the locks. It is also high yielding and easily spun. Uniformity of crimp from the butt to the tip of a lock is also typical of the breed. Romney wool has the finest fiber diameter of all the longwool breeds; the spinning count may run from 50 to 44 (equivalent to about 29-36 microns).

Kate
We have started to coat our Romney flock to keep the fleeces clean and also to reduce the "sunburn" that often occurs on the tips of the wool. Many of the sheep appear to be brown when, in fact, they are actually charcoal to light gray or even black beneath those sun bleached tips. Kate, here, is a rich milk chocolate all the way to the skin and has one of the largest fleeces we shear. She is our "wooly bear" among our flock.

Azalea
Without her protective coat, Azalea appears the same color as Kate's face...brown. She is, in fact, a deep charcoal gray with a lot of silver mixed in which spins into a lovely "speckled" yarn.

Gigi, underneath that coat, is an absolutely gorgeous light to medium gray. The luster of her fleece is incredible.

Fedora
Fedora, our grand matriarch, now has a coat to keep her fleece clean. She is all white and doesn't have to worry about the sun bleaching her tips.
