ICELANDIC SHEEP TYPES
Icelandic Sheep are varied in color and body type. Our particular flock is presented in the following pictures. We have solid black and moorit (brown) and both black and moorit badger-face. The badger-face is simply a pattern of light and dark color as shown below. Icelandics can be either horned or polled (no horns). Our entire flock is horned. The rams have horns that curl back around presenting a very impressive presence. The ewes' horns are much straighter with none of the curling back around but still quite beautiful. They also are great "handles" when you want to move them and they are stubbornly resistant to being moved. Some of the lambs are born with such tiny "horn buds" that you might think they are polled; but within a few days, the horns begin to become more apparent. The full curl of the mature rams may not appear til the end of their second year.

Badger-Face
This is a black badger-face Icelandic. Notice the cream-colored body with the black markings on the legs, under the neck and on the under-belly. Fleeces from these sheep are beautifully variegated in color from near-white to deep grays to blacks. Blended together they spin to a natural tweed finish.

This is a moorit badger-face lamb. Her markings are exactly like her friend above but brown rather than black. This coloring is rare in our flock, but we have found it to be exceptionally lovely. This particular ewe has always had the softest fleece and with the coloring ranging from tawny beige to chocolate, I've begun keeping her fleeces all to myself.

Moorit
This is a moorit lamb. Notice the lovely brown colors. Often moorits range from lovely platinum blonde to rich burnt sienna, all in the same gorgeous fleece. The thel (the soft undercoat) often ranges from Hershey-bar brown to a muted brown with grayish undertones. They are by far among the most beautiful of all fleece colors.

Solid Black
This is a solid black lamb...not rare in a flock of Icelandics. If you've ever tried to match a black shirt to a black trouser, you know black is never black! Their fleece can range from inky black to charcoal gray and even slightly reddish brown toward the tips. The most prized black fleece is that lustrious inky black, so intense it nearly swallows you up!

Solid White
This is a solid white lamb...this is more rare in our Icelandic flock. Unlike the creamy color of the badger-face, this is a snowy white similar to other sheep breeds. The white fleece is often among the very silkiest and finest of the spinning fleeces.
